Iroquois Point Elementary School has been helping children discover the joy of learning since 1960. Located 2.5 miles from the Ewa Beach business district, we serve children and families from the Iroquois Point Island Club community. Our student body is drawn from a combination of military and local families, reflecting the ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic diversity of Hawaii. The child-centered learning environment in each of our classrooms provides a nurturing, structured and stimulating place where our students can develop creativity and build critical thinking skills. Iroquois Point teachers strive to meet the individual needs of each student while making learning challenging and fun. Recognizing that the physical environment is important to student success, we are pleased to be one of the few schools in the state that has air-conditioned classrooms. Iroquois Points curriculum is aligned with the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards and is supported by programs and textbooks that are nationally recognized and research-based. Among the programs we use are Everyday Math, Invitations to Literacy, and Foss Science. In each subject, we emphasize a balanced curriculum which includes authentic learning experiences as well as the acquisition of basic skills. Computers with Internet access, as learning tools, are available in every classroom as well as in our state-of-the-art computer lab, where students work on individual projects as well as receiving group instruction. The Joint Venture Education Forum, a partnership between the military community and the Hawaii public schools, provides funding which supports the purchase of textbooks and computers for Iroquois Point Elementary. Recognizing the importance of developing the whole child, we offer different opportunities for arts exploration, through band, ukulele, chorus and art fairs. Athletic activities at our school are designed to teach fundamental concepts like teamwork, as well as to provide opportunities to build individual talents and explore new areas of interest. Our intramural sports include basketball, track, volleyball and spirit squad/cheerleading. Because we believe so strongly in the importance of the home school connection, Iroquois Point provides many opportunities for families to gather in the celebration of and support for learning. Activities and meetings are held regularly throughout the year to keep our community and parents informed and involved in our school. To highlight student accomplishments and excellence, to spotlight whats happening in our classrooms and to provide opportunities for fellowship, a wide variety of events are scheduled, such as Curriculum Fairs, Math Nights, Movie Nights and Star Watching. Our school encourages voluntarism and involves parents, teachers, community and administrators in decision making through the School Community Council. Our Parent Community Networking Center serves as a liaison between home and school, providing opportunities for families to get involved in their childrens education, as well as working to support the needs of families. Mission Statement: We, the faculty, staff, administration, community, parents, and students of Iroquois Point Elementary School will achieve our vision through an ongoing collaborative process.
