Consul General Kunikata was born in 1952 in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. He graduated from Tokyo University, Faculty of Law, in 1976 and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served in Tokyo as Director, Human Rights Division, MOFA, and Counsellor, Headquarters of the International Peace Cooperation, Prime Minister’s Office. His overseas assignments include the Embassies and Consulates General of Japan in Switzerland, South Africa, Israel and Germany. He also served as the Deputy Consul General in Los Angeles and the Consul General in Dusseldorf, Germany. Consul General Kunikata arrived in Honolulu in August 2007 with his wife, Hiroko. His interests include tennis and karaoke.
