In 1997, our founder and president, Robert Mitnick, began creating a healthy version of a tasty, local Hawaiian dish that consisted of taro, cream, milk, butter and sugar. Robert wanted to produce a food which was a wholesome alternative to the various soy products on the market while still using local, Hawaii-grown produce as its staple ingredients. What followed was the development of the Maui Taro Burger and the birth of the Hawaii Taro Company. Since those simple beginnings, Hawaii Taro Company has evolved into a fully certified manufacturing facility with one of the largest commercial kitchens on Maui. Today the Maui Taro Burger and related products are sold throughout the state of Hawaii and across the US Mainland. In 2004, Martin Brass joined the company as Chief Executive Officer. Together, Martin and Robert are working to broaden the product line and extend our reach into new markets.
